Residential Treatment Staff
Residential treatment can provide a safe, contained environment where people have time and space away from some of life’s pressures and pitfalls to work through challenging life experiences. Treatment programs do an excellent job supporting clients in shifting thoughts, beliefs, stories, and thinking errors and working through unhealthy behaviors and coping mechanisms.
At the Somatic Training Institute we believe that one of the most important factors in creating long-term change is the ability to address the underlying and often unconscious trauma stored in our clients’ bodies, brains, and neurophysiology. Helping your clients to practice the subtle skill of sequencing their traumatic experiences through their bodies and minds can make the critical difference between long-term change and a temporary band-aid.
Signs of trauma can be subtle and hidden or more overt and obvious. Working with underlying trauma requires advanced, subtle, and specialized experiential skills that you cannot get from book-learning alone. Without specific training, milieu staff and even clinicians can easily overlook these signs or conceptualize them incorrectly. Ineffective treatment, including targeting the symptoms of trauma alone, such as addiction and behavioral disorders, instead of focusing on the causes, can amplify your clients’ powerlessness, and can cause an increase of their symptoms and even relapse. Because trauma is often the root of your clients’ presenting problems, we want to help you to be able to recognize the signs of trauma, understand the underlying neurophysiology, and acquire the skills to build and support their resiliency. With our high-level trauma awareness and prevention trainings, we’re here to partner with you to take the powerful skills, education, and commitment you already have to the next level.
